Hi,
I just put together my first HTPC. I tried 2 video cards, an Nvida 6600 and an ATI1800XL, in both the sVGA and Component out configuration. I run into the two problems below:
1) a slow scanning line scans from the bottom of the screen going upwards constantly. It's like a ripple on the screen. The problem was very obvious with sVGA+Nvidia. For the ATI, I tried Component out and it's not as bad, but still visible. I confirmed that it is not a grounding issue between the PC and the TV cos I used a wire to hook up the chassis and the ground of the TV power outlet.
2) Aspect ratio. I returned the Nvida and kept the AT. I could never get the aspect ratio right. Whenever I turn on the HTPC, the TV will switch to "FULL" aspect and will not let me change. Then I tried to switch between all resolutions available in the Catalyst driver. Some of them are better, some of them are worst, but none of them could bring me full screen without squeezing the top and bottom. Squares become rectangles. I don't mind having black stripes on the side as a compromise, but even that I couldn't get. oh btw only 640x480 managed to keep the aspect, but it was too fussy to use.
Thanks in adv and have a great day.
KC
