Hi,

I'm a newbe and trying to figure out the OAT filling of the screen when 4:3 format comes over the air. The manual says to use the 1080i mode for 16:9 RPTV( I have a 16:9 KP65XBR10w). When a 4:3 comes over the air there is no way of filling the screen in this mode.

So than I tried the Variable Mode 1080i ;480i. The unit gets iractic in this mode and appears to display 480i than toggles to a upconvert to 1080i. Again I can not make it crop to 16:9. It apperasthe auto feature is not working. So than I put it in 480i only mode on the HD-100. Now can use the crop from the RPTV but the picture is no better than the analog signal! Is this normal?

I seems to me that the Auto 480i.1080i is not working as expected. When I exit menus the screen has a hard time switching and appears to be effected by the auto detection cuircts. Also I can not crop 4:3 because I think it upconverts 480i to 1080i. Whats going on? Excuse me if I miss any of the basics because I I'm new to all this.

This is what I do (and it seems to work fine):

1) Use the "always 1080i" mode (this will upconvert 480i)

2) Leave your HDTV on the 1.77 (standard) mode

*Forget about trying to "stretch" the signal (it looks strange anyway), and you won't have to continually change your aspect ratio

What is 1.77 standard mode? I have been reviewing the 30 pages of post on the Hd-100 and it appears the only way to fill a 4:3 to 16:9 is drop down to 480i always.

I demoed a RCA DTC100 and it will fill a 4:3 to 16:9 in 1080i but does not crop as nice as the sony.
