Sorry for being so dramatic, but I thought it was important that people who own the HD100 read this.


For reasons I don't care to discuss I have seen the inside of the HD100. There is a small heat sink on OTA HD tuner chip. On the machine I saw, the heat sink did not actually touch the chip. The clip designed to hold it on is too loose. The only thing worse then no heat sink is one with a small air cap between the chip and the sink. This could cause all kinds of trouble.


I observed a couple of other interesting things in the box (not mine by the way). The fan is obviously an after thought. Look at the picture on Ricardo's KP-xxHS10 zone page. The unit he shows has no fan and openings in the top of the cover for ventilation.


If the fan is disconnected the unit will not power up.


Finally there is a large unused connector inside, who knows what its for: testing, firewire or maybe just to give us something to talk about.
