It appears that DVD-R, -RW, +R, +RW, and VR modes are supported (page 8).


Depending upon the deinterlacer used, Panasonic might have a challenger here.

mimason - interested in your comment about weight and lack of audio performance. Can you elaborate a little? It's heavier than the the Denon 1910, for example, so it doesn't seem that light.

Just read the manual. Very feature-rich player. Looking forward to its arrival. Will give a good competition to Panny player.

To those of you that have "evaluated" the two based on so far only being able to review the manuals for both the Panny 97S and the Sony 975, what do you see as the key differences between the two, their strengths and weaknesses relative to each other, etc? For example: de-interlacing, DCDi, handling 4x3 material, etc.

I need to qualify my comment. I feel audio performance is equally important as video.

In comparison to my 10lb Denon 2200, 18lb Sony 222ES, and 18lb 3910 don't expect it to be able to keep up but I guess the price will also reflect that too. That said I got a killer deal on a 59avi so I'll get to have a nice comparo with the 3910 audio.
