I use my PJ710V in a Mangrove housing for underwater video. Since this camera takes decent stills and my housing allows me to swap between video and photo underwater, I use it for stills too.

The problem is that the flash seems to always fire in photo mode, and inside the housing, that flash bounces off the port and flares the lens. Maybe I'm missing it, but I can't seem to find a menu item to turn the flash off. No mention in the manual for how to turn off the flash. I use 2400 lumens of video light so there is no lack of light underwater. I want to turn the flash off in photo mode.

I could tape over the flash when it's in the housing, but I'm hoping for a more elegant solution.

Any ideas? Thanks.

If you read the advanced manual, you will see:

"You can select the flash setting when you record photos using the built-in flash, or an external flash (sold separately) that is compatible with your camcorder."

[Camera/Mic] [Flash] [Flash].

and one option is:

"Off ()

Records without flash."

But the default is flash on, so you need to go to the Menu and select the Camera/Mic part, then go to 'flash' and select the third option.
