24p True Cinema mode for Movies
The HMZ-T1 was not operating at 24p!? I didn’t keep mine long enough for formal testing, but that would explain the awful judder I saw when watching films…

Clear mode for gaming
Any idea what this means? Low latency? The HMZ-T1’s 50ms was worse than my LCD TV.

That’s great if the ear buds are detachable, as I would prefer to use my own headphones, but sticking with a 45º FOV and no mention of contrast or optics improvements leaves me disinterested. The image was far too small with the HMZ-T1, there were awful chromatic aberrations, and black level was poor. (10,000:1 CR)

Moving to 1080p panels seems like it would be detrimental to gaming, unless they now support 1080p60 3D inputs, though it should help reduce the screen-door considerably.

Its just a list of features, not new features but all of them.

The clear mode is new (or maybe I never noticed it? on my HMZ-t1), anyway as far as I know its whats called Game Mode in Samsung TV's, basically it disables all picture processing to lower latency.

As far as i know from the info i gathered, it was requested by John Carmack, in one of his interviews he said that he emailed sony and talked to them about decreasing the latency.

IMO we cant thank him for this, very important feature for gamers (at least from my experience and Samsung TV's that has this feature)

Not every game is 3D and not every HMZ user uses it for 3D only, adding full HD is great since most games are 2D.

HMZ-T1 supports side by side mode, so having full HD is good for 3D too, SBS 1080P look better then frame pack 720 even thou that frame pack is full resolution and side by side is not

As per this link mentioned in the HMZ-T1 thread:
http://www.pcinpact.com/news/73408-ifa-2012-hmz-t2-sony-renouvelle-son-visiocasque-3d-720p.htm

I surely hope that price tag is not accurate if it does not have 1080p OLEDs, because then it is really a revision rather than an upgrade. It should have been lighter and more comfortable from the start anyway, and the other adjustments would not be worth such a price premium imo, even for a gadget.

Thanks for noticeing, info updated.

yeah I hope it wont be that expensive, you can always get the Much cheaper US version.

I got mine HMZ-T1 for almost half EU price, paid 720USD versus 799EU in Europe and it works fine in 220v outlet even thou it has a 110V Only picture on the back of the decoder

Here's the detail officially from Sony:
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/head-mounted-display/hmz-t2

Thanks.

So its not full HD, basically its a refresh of the old hardware.

Actually even the weight is not changed, they just removed the headphones so its lighter, you can do it yourself (Im going to)

From the Sony site:

"Clear mode to reduce motion-blur - If you’re a gamer, you’ll love the clear mode setting, optimises and enhances lost frames for great clarity of high-speed action"

This sounds more like 120hz frame interpolation than latency reduction to me.

So 720p after all... No way I'm gonna pay more than 800 euros for practically the same thing. The 24p thing and the removability of the earbuds (my ears cannot fit that stuff well, I rather use my own equipment) are nice, but does not warrant a price change at all given the natural devaluation of hardware over time.

800 for this one and a nice discount for the older one to get rid of those as well would make the most sense. Waiting eagerly for price information....

A major disapointment as I was hoping for a fresh new model before Christmas with 1080p and smaller size.

This is just basically the same thing with removeable headphones, bigger light piece and thats about it. I could do this with the original myself already:mad:

Also interesting to note is that the Sony website states that a nose and forehead supporter is not included. Are we supposed to hold the thing in place by ourselves now?

Something also is telling me those headphones can't be removed... Looking at the wiring it looks like they are permanent earbuds, so you can't use your own.

Well, the 'use your own headphones' part is clearly stated on their features page...

This thing is now getting so confusing that I'm starting to suspect two things may be true:

1. They won't sell one copy since the old one is better for less money

2. They spread this nonsense just for laughs and eventually release a $600 all-in package featuring a trollface on the box

LOL, well hopefully they release it and it's actually smaller and a bit better.

i really hope they do !

i really do not like the hardware mods [removal of headphones , changing to battery power , IPD gearwheel removal] hence i did not even think of ordering this as T1 had a lot to improve on.

Now i know why the T1 is being retailed at usd$669+ on ebay USA brand new . they [Sony USA] are selling the remaining stock discounted to retailers to clear their inventory and to make way for T2 eventually.

i wanna know

1)are the IPD sliders 'independently' adjustable ? [ the gearwheel in T1 is a mess unless ones hacks it] ? [very important for me]

2)Are the optics better on T2 compared with T1 or is this old wine in a 'modified bottle' ?

3) how is T2 more comfortable [with stock headphones removed - earbuds added] - may be i am wrong but i do not see any change for the better except reduced weight ?

forehead supporter is the same as in T1 - so i guess NOT suited still for long hours continuous usage unless want to end up with red patched forehead !

Please Sony T1 owners - update on this for features below - are these 'NEW' features added to T2 or same as on T1 ?

=================================================================================

3) "Clear mode to reduce motion-blur - If you’re a gamer, you’ll love the clear mode setting, optimises and enhances lost frames for great clarity of high-speed action"

4) "24p True Cinema for an authentic experience - With the 24p True Cinema feature you can watch films at 24 frames per second – the authentic frame rate for big screen movies"

5) "Enjoy long hours of play with less eye fatigue - Auto Colour Temperature adjustment gradually lowers image tone intensity from blue to red hues for hours of smooth viewing

At least that is a sign that the new one won't have a ridiculously elevated price...

For more info we'll probably have to wait until the first reviewers get their hands on it at IFA, I too am interested in the supposedly improved optics and 24 fps playback, somehow I'm very sensitive to judder, especially with those panning camera movements (I always complain about that where others don't see it (or don't care)).

I also wonder how that Auto Colour Temperature adjustment thing would prevent eye fatigue... the way I see it it's just masking the symptoms (apparently color perception changes gradually)... nice to know the science behind that...

I wonder if it will be cross compatible? The new features like 24P and Game mode are firmware based in the decoder or the HMD?

If it in the decoder then maybe its possible to use old model with new decoder?

If its in the HMD itself then i hope we will have an option to buy the new HDM without the decoder and use our old one

Sony has done a pretty poor job on the press side of this release. The official product page ( http://www.sony.co.uk/product/head-mounted-display/hmz-t2 ) says that it is "full HD", which anyone with a proper mind recognizes as being 1920x1080... but still this is the same 720p resoution as the HMZ-T1. As I noted, the press release even called the HMZ-T1 "all new" and "totally enhanced" .
Actually if you click on technical specification in that sony link, it says 1280x720
