I had two blackouts in the same day while the pj was running, and don't have any ups or similar, the pj just switched off and I switched the power off at the power point for it as well as all my ht gear. Once power was restored powered everything back on at the switch, pj come back with the red light as normal when in standby, used remote to power it up and it worked fine both times.
I think the secret is that if you have a power failure, to immediately switch off the power points where you equipment is connected to so that when power is restored everything just goes back into standby mode.
In regard to the globe, there are some people that say it really doesn't matter whether or not it actually cools down via the fan or naturally so long as it does cool BEFORE it is re-ignited. That seems to be the problem with anybody that has a power failure and doesn't ensure the powerpoint is switched off, as when power is restored you can get a surge that may damage equipment.
