Sony HS20 - How to connect to Laptop?

341 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  pd47
I have a Sony HS20 projector and an old Dell Inspiron N5030 laptop.

I would like to connect the two together and am struggling!

The laptop only has a VGA output socket which, I presume is kicking out an analogue signal.

I do not have the PJ Multi Connector cable and am stuck with DVI, Component and S-Video inputs on the projector.

I have just tried a VGA to Component cable and connected it up. However, I get the message "Frequency Out of Range".

Is it possible to do what I am trying to do? Is it possible to feed an analogue signal into the Component inputs?

Arghhhhhhh!

Component video is analog.

The specific Sony cable you need is the SIC-HS30, which is darn near impossible to find in the U.S. since this projector is old tech and parts have become hard to obtain. The UK Amazon site has the cable for close to $300 making it more practical to invest in a new laptop.

A straight VGA-component cable is not going to work, you need a VGA-component converter. However even here there are no guarantees so I can't recommend any particular brand.

You say the projector has DVI?  VGA to DVI converters are plentiful and easy to find and cheap.  I'd go that route before trying to mess with component.
