We bought our Sony LCD (KDL-52XBR4) in 2007 (2008 maybe?) and had been working fine until about 9 months ago. About 9 months ago, we noticed the occasional thin red vertical line (like a pixel width or so) showing up on the left hand side of the image. It didn't matter what source was in use (TV, Blu-Ray, Xbox), the line would be there. It was occasional and off-to-the-side and hard to notice, so we let it be. Last week, however, the image is now covered with purple-black horizontal lines across the entire screen. This is persistent and not going away. Again, it doesn't matter what source was in use. Even when I go into the TV's own internal menu, the image is covered in those lines.

Is this box a goner? Or could it be fixed? Some component that has worn out? I saw some reference to a TCON malfunction... does this sound like that sort of problem?

Thanks to any help or advice. It is appreciated.

good likelihood that it is a tcon issue. depending on the set, some tcons are integrated with the panel while others are seperate cards. You may get lucky. IF so, cards typically can be found at shopjimmy.com along with potentially information about issues that can be addressed (or not) with tcon replacements.
