Looking at the SONY KF-50WE610 at my local Circuit City and was impressed with it's picture. It is also on sale at the moment. Now I notice that the SONY KDF-50WE655 is coming out(or is already out) and is about $500 more. Are there any advantages of the KDF over the KF picture wise? I know that the KDF has a built in HD tuner(not a big deal to me) and a cable card slot(not an issue), are those the only differences? I would also like to hear any comments on the KF-50WE610(good or bad).

Go for the KDF55WF655. You can get it for $[MSRP ONLY]. Doug

By all means go for the KDF. The picture is much brighter and sharper than the KF. Our local CC had the KF next to a 30" direct view HD Sony. They both had the same Direct TV HD feed. Last week CC replaced the the KF with the KDF and the PQ improvement compared with the direct view Sony was incredible.

I have yet to see the KDF in action, thats' why I was asking.


Another question...How is the veiwing distance with this set? I've heard mixed thoughts. My veiwing distance is around 8 ft. Is that TOO CLOSE?


Also, how well does the KDF handle SD content? Are the picture modes decent?

I was so impressed by the kdf that I just purchased a kdf55wf655 today and it will be delivered tomorrow. My viewing distance will be about 9 to 10'. CC had just put it up next to a "Kirk" and the PQ on the Sony looked just as good.

Does anyone know if there is a REAL difference between the KF and the KDF models?


I just bought the KF-50WE610 and can't find the specs for thsi set on the Sony site...


I've read a lot of different things about the differences of both models, but I can't get any real hard facts.


Should I try to go with the KDF as apposed to the KF? I'm expecting a delivery from Circuit City on Thursday, so if anyone can reply soon that would be great.

besides cosmetics, the only difference is the dual output/brighter lamp. i believe the 42/50" is a 100w lamp and the 55/60" is 132w. you can also lower the intensity of the lamp on the WF series, reducing power consumption and increasing the black level.

oops, yeah it does have the integrated ATSC/CableCARD tuner... i read the post too quickly and thought he was comparing the 50" GWIV to the 55".


so another difference to the 04' models and the 05' models is the redesigned optical block that is said to improve brightness by 10%. this is available in all 655 models.

I had the KDF-50WE655 for about 7 days, just returned it and bought the

KF-50WE610.


I like the 610 much better on SD content via Directv. The 655 didnt do very well with non-HD content.


I would say, if you dont need the tuner or cablecard slot, save the money and go with the KF-50WE610


other pluses are:

looks better than the cheap looking all silver 655

problems with lamp are fixed, 655 is yet to be determined
