Hi

Im new to this board so this topic may have already been discussed, so apologies. However I cannot find anything when searching.

Does anyone have any opinions on the new Sony KLV 30MR1 30" LCD screen? I've seen one in a shop, and I was impressed, but then my regular TV is a 12 year old 20" set.

How would this compare with a similarly priced Plasma - the LCD is much more energy efficient than the plasma's that I have seen?

How would a modern LCD compare to plasma's 2 years ago when they were 3 times the price?

How would this compare to a 32" CRT?

Also any feedback on the Sony 17" KLV-17, I fancy one in the spare room?

Thanks

I have both the Sony KLV-15SR1 (15" version of the KLV-17) and the KLV-30MR1, both are superb sets and very different. The picture on the 15 inch is far superior to the 30 inch, the black level is perfect, it is too high on the 30 inch. I would say the picture on the 15 (and 17 inch) sonys are the best of any model from any manufacturer, you cannot see the pixel structure at all, everything about them is fantastic. It's a shame that the backlighting is too high on the 30 inch, it is adjustable to a half setting on the small sets. That said, the 30 inch offers a better picture in HDTV mode than any Plasma, if the backlighting could be reduced and the luminance shift in progressive scan mode be controlled it would be near perfect.

Hello Megalaser, I have tried to contact you in PM but I have not received answares.

I can have the service manuals of the KLV-30MR1 from a friend that works in a service center if you want to modify the backlight levels.

I have a question for you. Has you tried to connect a source with a dvi directly to the white cable of the SONY? It's works?

I have already post a message about this thread and someone tell me to disconnect all the cables and than try to connect to the white cable the DVI.

THe problem is that I have not the KLV-30MR1, I want to buy one but I need this answare before buy it.

Thanks

Hi,

Sorry, don't know how the PM thing works and didn't receive any notification of a message from you but please email me at: [email protected] or reply in the forum and I will get the email notification.

I would like to oirder a service manual, how quickly do you think your friend could get me one? thanks for that.

Regarding DVI input, I have not tried it in case in damages the set, it might be risky. The screen has a DVI connector and another smaller connector, it may be possible that the DVI connector just has the signal and the other is the control and audio - not sure . . . . . .

Cheers

Simon
