Hey all, I'm a total newbie to HDTV, LCD TVs etc....need a little help.

1. Just purchased Sony KLV-32M1 and have Comcast Digital Cable (HDTV). The box is the Motorola 6412 Dual Tuner etc. The picture quality on 1080i is amazing, only problem is that is about a dozen channels. The picture quality on standard def (480i) is average at best - picture grainy and unclear at times. Is this a function of the standard def and the LCD TV? Or do I have a bad cable connection?

I unplugged the box and hooked the cable directly to the TV and to be honest, it doesn't seem like the digital cable does jack.

I just want to make sure that it isn't the TV.

Thoughts?

Sorry for the long post, thanks for the advice in advance.

The channels 1 to 125 aren't digital. (You can verify this by watching any DirecTV commercial, where they harp on it.) So the digital cable box isn't going to do anything for you there.

Check to see how your digital channels up in the 200 range are. That will give you a reading on how a digital 480i signal looks. That is probably as good as 480i is going to look.

It's typical for a large screen to magnify any flaws in the input signal. It may be that your input signal has signal strength problems or some type of interference ingress. You could try having the cable company diagnose that. But if you thought your analog picture was great with your previous set, that probably isn't the problem. Maybe others have experience with this particular TV model and can comment on adjustments.
