Hello,

Bought this Sony SAT-200HD OTA-HD-TV tuner used sight unseen, and it won't even power up. I had an amateur electronics repair guy take a look under the cover, etc., and he didn't see anything obvious on the PCB.

Who knows how long the thing had been powered off before I got it. Sometimes these things never turn back on once they are out of use for a while?

I know these things have all kinds of rebooting issues, and it is 16 y old, but I only want to use it for OTA, not satellite or cable.

Thanks!

Joe

A common cause of these kinds of problems is electrolytic capacitors that have gone bad or dried out. If your electronics guy can check the electrolytic caps with an ESR meter, you may be able to find the culprit and fix it after all.

But if you can't fix it, there are plenty of cheap OTA HD tuners available these days. Most are based on MStar chipsets: iView, HomeWorx, eMatic, etc. Even Terk sells a version of one.

Thank you very much! I'll let you know what happens.
