I have an xbox 360 and a scientific atlantic cable box both hooked into a Sony STR-DG920 AVR via HDMI and output HDMI to a Sony 50" SXRD Projection TV. I notice there is a flickering or flashing with the picture some times. I changed out the HDMI cables to make sure it wasn't those, so I'm pretty sure the cabling is fine. When I go direct to the TV's HDMI ins the problem seems to go away. I'm not sure exactly what the problem could be. The receiver is getting good ventilation and I touched it to make sure it isn't hot, so I don't think that is the problem. Any insight would be great. Thanks in advance.

So this comes and goes?

Hard to say if it's just general HDMI weirdness or what.

HDMI is touchy, generally any source switching while HDMI sources are running content can cause this sort of thing and worse.

The Harmony and other like remotes can help, as they power devices off and on properly and handle the switch on the AVR for the selected source or activity if you will on the Harmonys.

I'm pretty sure everything is set up right. When you say switching, do you mean when I switch sources? It seems to be working correctly. I notice when I switch to the xbox 360 input on the 920 it will power on the 360. The cable box doesn't appear to be that smart. Maybe it is just an odd hdmi issue.

I noticed that when I power on my blu ray the 920 switches to blu ray, which it should since its a bravia componant but it also sends a signal to my cable box which doesnt switch it off but almost puts it in stand buy which just displays the time. I have a scientific Atlantic box as well. I think the 920 sends some type of signal to the device
