I was talking to a Sony person at CES and he made the comment (Don't know if he was a sony employee or some one hired for the show). I was checking to see if anyone out there had more information.

Sony has always intended to first prove the technology in front projectors and then come out with rear projectors. I would say that they are still in the early part of phase 1 - proving it in front projectors.

I concur with Arun. (Snowing in Hades, again. :))


The rate of progress on the front-projector side has been slow and there is no demo of a rear-projection set, let alone a reasonably priced front projector.


I'd guess a rear projection model is due no sooner than the middle of next year, but until there is a prototype, you can readily assume it won't be out soon. I don't believe Sony has shipped a new important TV without showing it first at a major trade show in several years.

Sony's unique implementation of LCOS. From demos, it's the highest contrast LCOS in production -- by far.
