I was watching my PJ when it suddenly shut itself off.


The main fuse is good. When I try to power it on I can hear a relay engaging but nothing happens.


I've seen some threads here talking about a power problem with the 1252 blowing it's "FETs" due to a transistor failure. Could this be the problem? There was also mention of extracting error codes somehow but I couldn't find anything regarding it in the service manual.


Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue or any thoughts on the cause? At this time I'm not even sure if it's a powersupply issue or something else.

Do you have the installation manual

go to the last couple of pages and it will show you where to find the

error code and what may be causing it (narrow it down)

Unfortunately I don't even get an error code.


The "standby" light at the rear of the projector lights up when I power it on but that's it. The error code LCD is completely blank.

It is hard to take you further with out parts to swap


What are you like with a multi meter you need to see if the

small board in the power supply is putting out 360 volts

very large capacitors in there if you are not confident you need to find

a tech

The power supply is dead. I can repair that if you can't find anyone close to you.

I have my fluke digital multimeter from my college days and I'm not afraid to use it.

Do you know if the schematics for the 1272 are the same as the 1252?

OK, I found a local projector for sale but it is a VPH-1251. How compatible is this to the VPH-1252?


Can I use parts such as the powersupply from the 1251 in my 1252?


The only difference I see in the specs is that the 1251 doesn't have component inputs . . .

for anyone who might be reading this thread later, it turns out the PS for the 1251 is not compatible with the 1252.

I was hoping to find some replacement parts to fix it rather than do component toubleshooting.

Sony 1272 or 1252 are on ebay cheap all the time in the US

You would probably pick up a whole PJ for the price you would spend on

a power supply


If your tubes are in good condition I would buy a parts machine

Just keep an eye out for one close to you to save on freight


It may not be the power supply so if you had a parts machine you could swap

boards
