I have recently purchased the 1272Q with 960 hours on the tubes. I have an opportunity to get the D50HTU with very low hours for about $400 more than what I paid for my 1272.

Is this a good deal? How do the units compare?

One side note...the D50 includes an internal line doubler. This is not a factor for me (other than selling the doubler) because I will be running an HTPC.

Thanks,

John

I would go for it, about the same pj, but much newer, smaller and I think quieter, plus it will take component input. I haven't seen them side by side, but I was pretty impressed by the picture from a D50 with burned tubes, I imagine one with good tubes would look great. They're pretty close spec wise though, tough choice. Just for economics though, I'd likely get the D50 that would have/hold a greater resale value due to its newer vintage.

There are only 3 things that are holding me back:

1. 25% less bandwidth

2. max resolution: 1280x1024 vs. 1600x1200

3. # of lines (HD): 1250 vs. 1000

You are right Paul...newer and more quiet are very attractive features!
