sony vph1031q composite out picture b&w

622 Views 11 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Curt Palme
I've got a 1031q hooked up from a standard definition sat receiver to the composite in on my sony vph 1031q and the picture is b&w. All 3 tubes are working, and the built in test pattern shows color. Anyone have any ideas?

I have also hooked up my xbox to the composite in, and the image is still b&w

How can a b/w test pattern show color?

Are you sure you're in NTSC video mode and not PAL or SECAM?

If not, then your color board is bad. I've got spares. It's the one to the left of the convergence board.
The internal test pattern is in color, when I switch back to video, it is in b&w. The projector is in normal mode, not secam. I also have the color corrected hd144 lenses on it.
The internal pattern of 1031 is B/W (made by three colors of course!).

How do exactly connect the sat receiver to the projector?

It's a crosshatch pattern that should be b/w if the set is properly set up. THere's no color test pattern within the 1031.

I'm guessing your color board is bad. Give me a shout at [email protected] if you want to replace it.
Sorry, I see what you guys are saying now. When the test pattern is out of alignment, all three colors are visible. When I bring everything into alignment, and switch from test to normal (ntsc) the projected image is b&w
Right. Sorry if I tell you things that you already know!

So, how exactly you connect the Sat receiver to the CRT?
The sat receiver is connected to the projector via composite cable to bnc adapter.
Did you select NTSC as Curt suggested? Did it work correctly before?

I'm not familiar with composite inputof 1031 (I used RGB) but did you check the "color" adjustment on the keyboard?

Do you mean composite video? The 1031 does not accept a component signal.
yes, i meant composite. I don't have either of the rgb cables to test the other inputs

atm.
OK, so you have a bad color board.
