I was mainly looking at the new Sanyo Z3000. Its reviews sofar are pretty good, and it has the neat option of allowing cleaning dust out yourself, which in my old house is a definite salespoint.

The store I was keeping an eye on, because prices kept dropping, all of a sudden decided to call it quits on the Sanyo brand and instead is now offering this Sony at a very very nice price. Reading the reviews I'm getting interested in this one too

Has anyone seen the Sanyo and the Sony side by side? Your opinion? I don't want the motion interpolation techniques the Sanyo has, just a good flexible (lens shift) PJ that can handle a bit of ambient light, on a 2m diagonal screen.

What's Sony's track record on dust for this one? I'm told they have sealed light engines, is this the case for this model?

Finally, is this model already to be replaced? The price is really low compared to the list price.

Thanks!

The HW10 does have a sealed light engine. If you are happy with the price, I'd say the HW10 is a good choice for you. I would have to imagine that the contrast and blacks should be better with the Sony.

Sounds very interesting indeed. So you're saying the Sony can handle a bit of ambient light OK? I recall reviews of the first SXRD Sony's and they were a bit weak in the light output department. This has definitely been fixed?

All seems too good to be true at this price point. I read in the forum here the Sony's supposed to be cheaper than Panny or Sanyo outside the USA, but this is a rather large difference. Like 30% less in streetprice...

Rats, now I have to clean up the drool on my desk again
Keeping my CC handy awaiting your replies. Also I'd still like to know if waiting a bit more would be worthwhile. I won't like it but I don't have much time now to play with it anyway. But if this model is being sold out, it might be wise to snap it up right now.

VPL-HW10 is a new Sony model; just a few months old. I do not think they are sold out anytime soon unless Sony is closing down its PJ operations which I do not think they are.

Thanks! I'll wait a few weeks then to read more reviews and get more info about this PJ. I found a new brick and mortar store that has it on order, at almost the same low price.

Not sure if I'll order via the internet (offering a 7 day return warranty for full refund, but the risk of transport damage and less service) or go to a traditional store. The price would not be much different in this case anyway.

Thanks all for your replies and help. I'll head over to the official thread and see what more information I can glean.

I don't know about the Sony's ability to handle ambient light. You'd have to read reviews and compare.
