Sony vpl-hw55es location question

329 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Mike Garrett
I am building my first dedicated theater. I would like to use the Sony VPL-HW55es in a box at the back of the theater. The room is 13 X 17 X 7.5. The lens would be 17 feet from the screen as I would build the box at the back of the room in the equipment closet. Is this too far for the Sony? I would like to have a 130" screen. Thx in advance.

17' of throw is fine for a 130" diagonal 16:9 screen. If you place the projector in a hush box, you are going to need to make sure that you have allowed for cooling of the projector or you will over heat it. Also the HW55ES is a very quiet projector and I doubt that you need a hush box for it. If we can help you, give us a call. we have 55's in stock.
Thanks, Mike. I am about 3-4 weeks away from ordering. what kind of cooling will I need? Will a small computer fan suffice? I don't want to add any noise.
Do i need to go with a 1.0 gain or 1.1 or 1.2 for that distance?

Thanks again

A computer fan would work fine. You would need to watch out, if the fan died and that could happen without you knowing it and you could overheat your projector. Go with 1.2 gain.
