I am/have replaced a NVidia 8500 GT that has recently died with a new video card. I have read many good things about the Asus EAH 4550 so I went with it. I only have a direct connection from my PC to my TV, no AVR. I am not trying to get 5.1 just 2 channel. I have so far installed (in order listed):

1. 8.12 Vista 32 bit Catalist Drivers

2. R2.13 Vista 32 bit Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

3. R2.13 ATI HDMI audio device

4. Gone in to playback devices and selected "Digital Audio Devices HDMI" and made it default - the one with the TV picutre

After all that I do not get any sound from HDMI connection. I have disabled and enabled onboard audio, tried different calbes, powered off both TV and PC and rebooted, etc..., I even reinstalled the R2.13 drivers. I am curious that the old Nvidia card had a connection from the mother board labled SPDIF J8, and this card has nothing. Is that the trouble? The computer is an HP M9060N. Any ideas?

Thanks for any/all help.

He recommended that I uninstall the ATI HDMI audio device and use the windows vista default driver.

Sure enough he was right on. I 1) uninstalled it, 2)let windows scan for hardware changes, 3) installed the standard vista driver, and 4) rebooted. It worked perfectly.

Please keep in mind I was only after 2 channel audio for a direct connection to my TV - NOT 5.1.

I am very thankful for his help to me and all he contributes to this forum.

Cheers everyone
