Sony XBR KV-36XBR400 issues...help!

287 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  hdniklas
Not sure if this is the right place for this, however, I was watching the PGA this afternoon when my picture just went dead. Looked like a scene from the old TVs when you would turn them off and a little dot shows in the middle. The TV attempted to turn back on, but shut itself back off within ten seconds. I have unplugged it several times and attempted to turn it on and off. What I am seeing is the TV will turn on, but only with audio. After 15-20 seconds it shuts itself off. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like High Voltage Shut down, meaning something is shorted like the horizontal transistor or Flyback area. Contact a service center...

I use to repair monitors a long time ago.

Meredith (KPHO) SUCKs! Phoenix CBS station with no HD just SD.
If all you get is a little dot in the middle, then it sounds like one or both deflection boards are blown. Definitely one for the Sony service center. Since your set is relatively new (they've only been out for a year or so), then it should be in warranty, which is one year for XBRs.

Had this happen to my set too. Ended up replacing the power supply/voltage regulater circuit card. Quit easy to do and can be done with in home service. Does the front of your red led flash at certain intervals? The number of flashes provides a service code for diagnostics.
