Sony XBR6510W vs. Sony 65XBR2

I am trying to decide between the Sony XBR6510W and the 65XBR2. I've read about the banding issues on the XBR6510W and have read a lot of positive reviews on the XBR2.

I can get the XBR10W from my dealer at $3900. Couple that with Sony's current $500 dollar rebate and the net price is $3400. I can get the XBR2 for $4700. Is the XBR2 worth $1300 more than the XBR6510W? I know it has an integrated HDTV tuner but that is not a real big issue for me at this point being that I don't watch much television.

I'm curious what everyone thinks regarding these two sets. What are the current "issues" regarding each in relation to performance, picture quality, know problems, etc. Thanks very much.

I've read a lot of commentary from people on these boards and others that leads me to believe that you should be thinking about the KP-57HW40 vs the KDP-65XBR2.

Most people agree that the HW40 has a much better picture than the 10W series, but without the added cost of the built-in tuner and the firewire ports of the XBR2 series. If you can live with the 57" set, it should be a couple hundred less than the 57XBR10W and a $1000 or so less than the 65XBR10W - and you'll get a better picture and a second HD capable input.
I'm pretty intent on getting the 65" set. Any mention in your references regarding the picture of the 65XBR2 vs the 57HW40? I'v heard that the pic in the 65XBR2 is much better than the XBR6510W. Thanks.

I've been trying to figure that one out. I've been posting that very question in every thread I can find about the HW40 or XBR2 - and no answer yet.

I'm really hoping that the HW40 is every bit as good as the XBR2, cause I could save a lot of money by not getting the tuner and the firewire ports.
BobD,

The price differential between the HW40 and the XBR2 would suggest that there is more of a difference than just the firewire, extra input and the tuner.

I would not consider the HW10 as it is soft compared to the HW40. I have seen them both side by side in the last week and a half. The HW40 looks fantastic.

I have heard of too many problems with the HW10's.

Keep in mind that if you buy the HW10 you will eventually have to get a set top box for HD. The fan runs all the time on most of those boxes. Too much noise for me.

The XBR2's tuner does not have a fan.

Weldon,

I have seen your questions about the differences between the HW40 and the XBR2 and would like to know the same thing.

Where can you get the 64XBR2 for $4700.00? Sounds like a good deal...
