Sound and Vision 2006 Product of the Year

I just received the print version of Sound and Vision's February/March 2007 edition. In it, they have their 2006 Editors' Choice Awards. And for they Product of the Year (meaning overall, not just for a particular category) they chose... drum roll:

Toshiba HD-XA1

I would link to the article, but they always print before they publish on their site. But basically, they have 5 paragraphs praising how HD DVD set the bar so high. And in spite of the players' (including the A1) ergonomics, HD DVD delivered on its promises while it took the Blu-ray camp 6 months to reach video equity in players and software.

So congratulations to Toshiba and HD-DVD!

Well, I guess this is a good thing in that Joe Sixpack that reads this mag and knows nothing about AV thus trusts them and my buy an HD DVD player.

Given the inaccuracy of so much of their content, I hope this endorsement does get the derision of the knowledgable AV folk because they'd have lots of errors to point to demonstrating that S&V does not know what it is talking about.
