I have a sound blaster audigy 2 sound card. It has a 1/8th inch digital out on the card. I want to connect it to my rca type coaxial digital input on my stereo receiver. I have been able to find the rca type digital coax cable to use, however I'm unsure on the adapter I need to connect it to the sound card.

I've seen seen stereo to mono adapters, but will this work? I want to be able to use my dolby surround and such. So will this type of adapter lose my surround sound?

Much thanks for any help on clearing this dilema up

Thanks

Matthew

It has a 1/8" digital output? Are you absolutely sure of that?

He's right. It's a mini-jack. I have the Audigy2 in the HTPC.

Radio Shack should have what you need. I have a mono 2' mini-to-rca cable.

Plug the mini end into the Audigy SPDIF, and the rca end into your receiver digital coax input, and you're all set.

You will need to setup the Audigy2 to do digital output. I don't remember if that setting is on by default.

Hmph. I'm surprised it has the bandwidth. But hey! if it works it works. Thanks for the input. :D

Cable's fine. I would be more worried about the contact. And isn't a mini-plug (the plug, not the cable) unshielded? But then I don't understand digital frequencies real well.

If its a TS plug then its just not balanced but you dont need to be TRS to carry digital. Its just transfering bits. We have some cables home made with 9451 cable that go from XLR all the way to mini for digital and they work just fine. All of our digital stuff is run by an external clock a Rosenthal(sp) so it stays on course and jitter free.
