Hi, I'm new to this forum. I found it through a comment posted on Slashdot.

I figured this would be the best place to ask this question - how does a nice set of speakers sound connected to nice receiver which is connected to my digital out from my computer's sound card?

I have heard that there is considerable degredation in quality when you output to a reciever. What's the truth?

In general, a digital connection to your receiver from your sound card does not cause "considerable degredation" of the signal. Granted, there are variables involved, including the source and your specific sound card.

However, in my mid-fi system consisting of Def Tech fronts/center/surrounds, DIY shiva-based sub and Denon 2801 receiver I have a really hard time hearing a difference between the digital out of my cheap ($26) CMI8738-MC6 sound card and my Pioneer DV-C503 DVD player.

As always, YMMV.
