No, you can't. I'd rate them at 0, no kidding. Even CD's, records or books on a bookshelf would work much better, and that's not saying much.

Thank you Frank for the reply, I considered the egg cartons because I saw on the internet sound diffusor panels with a very similar shape.
Anyway, if not much trouble, can you tell me what cause the poor diffusing performance, if it is in the shape or it is in the material that they are made of.
Regards.

Well, both really. They're too soft, and given their density they absorb along a very narrow bandwidth...if you have an 800Hz problem in your room they're perfect. The other issue is the fact the fact that you'll always have a repeating patter no matter how you orient them. That's real bad when it comes to diffusion.![]()

Really he is not saying to use books on a bookshelf.
Even relatively simple bass traps should be at least in the relhm of a proper design.
Can you tell us what you are really attempting to accomplish here?

I bookmarked those a couple years ago. Never ended up using them though...

You're usually better off concentrating on absorption as a first step at least, then once the room is more controlled you can take a longer look at diffusion.

Frank, I'm planning to cover the 4 walls of the room with 1/2 inch couch foam and heavey cloth, will that be a good starting point??.

NO. Don't do that. You'll over absorb the highs and do absolutely nothing for the lows, so the room will be dry and boomy. Not good.
Can you post a diagram of the room so we can take a look at what you have to work with?

I'd start simply since it sounds like you want a more lively environment: bass trapping in the front corners, 2" panels at the reflection points and thicker, 6" bass traps (2) on the back wall. If you can't fit 6" traps, go with 4". You can always add more absorption if you think you need it. That's just a starting place.

Frank what about the floor, it is 100% reflective, do you think it will be good if I cover the entire floor with a carpet??

Eh..not the whole floor, unless wall-to-wall carpet is what you want from an aesthetic standpoint. A 5'x8' area rug or two and some experimentation in terms of placement will do nicely.
