Hi guys.

So ... initially purchased a HTIB (Onkyo HT-S650) ...
http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater...7-9952795.html

http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=...ss=Systems&p=s

then my friend gave me his Yamaha RX-V467
http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio..._u/?mode=model

Here is my problem ......... and I had this even before I changed receivers.

The sound effects are much, much louder than the speaking voice. As soon as there is shooting or explosions, I have to lower the volume ASAP.

To calibrate the sound, I used the automatic sound adjustment that comes with the receiver (the little microphone). Unlike original receiver, this one does not let me adjust volume of each speaker ..... like for example I could lower the left and right speakers and increase volume of a center channel.

what do I do??? How do I make this thing stop waking up the neighbors??? I know that if this receiver had a night mode option, that could have helped. BUT it doesn't.

thank you.

P.S. If I find no solution to this problem, I'd have to fork over $1,200 for a new home theater that I really don't want to do.

P.S.S. Interesting thing is when I watch regular TV shows, reality shows, etc, I don't notice too big of a problem. It's only movies over blu-ray or Micca USB player.

^^^^ +1 on...

Read your owners manual.

Right on the very page you link, the 471 has....

Adaptive DRC(solves your problem)

Adaptive DSP(enhancement of solving your problem)

So, read your manual...

AND SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM

Your choice of avr would make the most significant difference. From what I read from others, it seems avr's with dolby volume would limit dynamic range best. Second best choice would be avr's with audyssey dynamic volume.

Cheapest avr with dolby volume is harman kardon avr-2600. Look to onkyo or denon for audyssey dynamic volume.

Seems like sound effects are mainly coming out of my center channel, so lowering my front left and right speakers didn't really fix the crazy sound on explosions etc.

Any advice???

Apparently you still don't know how to READ A MANUAL.

The 465 has Adaptive DRC...USE IT.

DRC means Dynamic Range Control...USE IT.

Want to know why to USE IT?

It solves your PROBLEM.

What solves your PROBLEM?

DRC does, USE IT.
