Sound in a cave...

507 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  thumperxr69
OK...I wasn't exactly sure where to post this and it makes sense here.

Unfortunately right now I have a 2.0 sound system and when I listen to channels like HDNET movies the sound is like it is muffled and in a cave. When I watch CBS e..g. CSI (from D*) some of the sound effects that I believe are designed for 5.1 are extremely loud and I have to grab the remote fast. If I had an authentic 5.1 system could these things be evened out???

Big question that may seem odd, what kind of room are you, what kind of furniture, ans speaker placement etc.

I think need to get a better grasp on your rooms acoustics.

You don't have a receiver listed in your equipment list. Are you running your audio through your TV. If so, do you have one of those simulated surround modes or ambiance enhancement modes activated? If so, turn it off.

I believe you're missing the center channel entirely which is wear most of the talking is. You're likely hearing the left right reverb of the voice in your 2 channels though as it would sound echoish. I bet you hear music ok though.

You need the center channel.

Craig - I would check my TV now but if I came within 10 ft of it now during Grey's Anatomy my wife would probably kill me. The TiVo guide was already wrong so she mssed the first 10 mintes.

That is correct I have no AV receiver right now. The Panasonic XR57 is in my future plus some surround sound speakers but the cave sound just confused me. Like I said it wasn't on all programs. Only HDNet /HDNET movies. The simulation is not on from what I remember. Houghton it does kind of sound like a reverb. It is tolerable but a little irritating. I just need to get on the stick and get an authentic 5.1 system. It is weird I have had High Def for almost 18 months but I won't put out just a little money for some quality sound.

Thanks to all
