So my HTPC setup is pretty solid. But I have issues when I try to view movies on my iphone or ipad. I use MakeMKV to rip and Handbrake to compress and convert to mp4. I'm using a wireless drive to store the movies and can access them on my ipad or iphone. Some of the videos work flawlessly. I'm using the seagate drive and app for the programs. Others work, but with no sound. Any ideas? They all work fine on my HTPC.

I can think of two possibilities.. Since I don't have much to go on.. here you go..

1) The converted file has a Audio format that the devices cannot decode?

Normally when I recode something for mobile, I downmix the AC3 or DTS into stereo AAC. You don't say what you are converting the audio to.

2) The wireless is not fast enough for the stream?

I have 802.1N at the house, which purports to be 300mbps speed, however I also have about a dozen devices that can be using the wireless at any given time. Wifi is just like a CB radio.. Only one can talk at a time, half duplex. Try turning off every other Wifi device in your house and then try to stream it, see if it works OK.

Not sure if this helps or not..
