I have an old JVC receiver that always worked well with my old VCR and my DVD player. I recently upgraded my TV to HDTV and hooked up the receiver. I'm now getting audio drop out during playback of any movie or show with surround sound.

The receiver "clicks" as though it shuts down for about 2-3 seconds, then powers back up to normal.

I have the speakers running from the receiver to the powered sub and out to the left and right channels. The center and rear channels run from the receiver. All speakers operate normally.

Any advice?

In testing it more tonight, it does the same thing for the TV, PS2, and multiple DVD players I tested and all outputs.

What is consistent is the sound volume. If I turn it up past 25 on my receiver, that's when it does it. Could it be crossed wires? Again, this is an older receiver with Dolby Pro Logic.
