sound problem, dd

I have a SB live 5.1 connected to a reciever that supports both dd and dts, using SPDIF.

When I play a dolby digital movie the reciever goes to dolby digital mode and everything looks fine, but the sound is everything but fine. It cut the sound, like if someone says "hey, my name is sam" I hear "h m ame s sa".

(Running windows XP using BSplayer and Powerdvd)

This could be a lot of things. To consider:

1) You say the receiver enters DD mode. When the audio is stuttering, does the DD indicator on your receiver remain solid or does it flicker (like its loosing the signal)? If so, try a different interconnect cable. If the problem persists, I'd look at your PC.

2) If the indicator is solid, try to reproduce the problem with another component that emits DD (like a stand-alone DVD player or X-Box). Does it exhibit the same problem, or is it solid? If the performance is flaky, the problem is in your receiver, or possible the interconnect.

3) Is the problem between the PC and your receiver only with DD? Or does regular (PCM) CD playback also break up?

Keeping one trying different combinations (change one thing at a time), which help narrow the scope of the problem considerably. Post your finding and the group may be able to figure this out.
