I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-91TXH receiver. That is connected to my computer's on-board TOSLink out port so I can have sound for whenever I watch video being streamed to my HDTV from my computer.

I need to use my 5.1 headphones at the end of the day so my family will not wake up from what ever video I want to watch or PC game I am on. For my 5.1 headphones to receive audio I must use a TOSLink. Unfortunately, my PC only has the one on-board TOSLink port I mentioned earlier.

At first I tried leaving my receiver connected to my computer's TOSLink out port. Then connected my headphones to my receiver's TOSLink out port. Sound comes through very well for my headphones but, the signal to the speakers do not shut off as they would if I plugged in stereo headphones to my receiver's front panel headphones jack.

I have two 8800GTX cards in SLI mode that leaves no space for me to add an audio card. Not that I would because then everything would overheat. Those PCI-Express 1.0 x16 video cards have DVI out only. I do not believe there are any PC video cards with HDMI that carries audio for any version of PCI Express let alone version 1.0.

Is there a way around this? I have read the manual from front to back for a few hours trying to brainstorm a solution that does not involve unplugging/re-plugging the receiver and headphones over and over.

Anyways here is the manual I looked at for my receiver in case I missed something: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pi...ctions0718.pdf

Thanks for any help and knowledge the forum members can provide.
