I was there today looking at their very wide selection of HDTVs while I was out wasting time. I was looking at the RCA Scenium 65-inch RPTV and was approached by a salesman (BTW: I should mention to you that this was in Colorado Springs and not NYC).
I started asking talking about all the TVs becoming obsolete. He was not nearly as concerned as those of us in here.
When I asked about the elimination of component video inputs, he started telling me about these TVs having "digital component inputs..." I asked "So that means the YPrPb signals suddenly become digital inputs? Some kind of firewire clone?" and he said "Yes!" Whatever. "What about TVs that don't have digital decoders built in?" His response was that they will be upgraded by new STBs...
So when I asked about the analog downrez, he got very evasive and did a Condit on me... telling me that the electronics manufacturers would never, ever do such a thing because it would alienate their entire customer base.
And then he just up and left. I wasn't being pushy or impolite, either.
So, SoundTrack is selling their current crop of HDTVs as future-proof. How about that?
