Hi All, just changed my MB from Abit K7-raid to Soyo Dragon Ultra P4S and can't get the sound to work. every think seams to be OK but multimedia dos not see any devices. After reinstating WinME I don't have IO devises and Wave devices. Before I had SB 64 in this system. Tech support is worthless all they advise is to format C drive. Please help me clean up SB files.

best regards Artur.

Hi Artur:

___When moving from a VIA (KT7 –RAID?) to a SiS based board or for that matter even an older chipset to a newer one of the same manufacturer, a format is the proper choice. You may not like the idea but what if you were to spend the next 25 hours trouble shooting a problem that is a direct result of the chipset/MB swap and cannot be solved? You would not only be wasting our time but especially yours. Please consider this as just a suggestion for the right way to build an HTPC or performance PC properly.

___Good Luck

Artur,

xcel is correct in that the proper way to change between chipsets is to start with a fresh install of the OS -- after a format.

Alternatively, you could delete the ENUM key in the system registry -- this contains the info regarding the computer's hardware configuration (plug n' play, mb chipset, etc). Here's a link: http://www.highvid.com/software_t/enum/enum_1.shtml

If you did this, you really need to make sure that you backup any important data and have the current drivers for your hardware available -- you also might want to start the computer in safe mode first, and remove any registry entries specific to the SB install and any .inf files in the /Windows/System directory.

Good luck!
