Spatialight and JVC

I was wondering who makes the LCOS panels for JVC. Is it Spatialight?

No. It is Aurora/UMC. The basic chip is sent to JVC for the application of the liquid crystal material and other finishing work. This is for the D-ILA RPTVs. The FPTVs from JVC are made using analog chips completely made by JVC.
Is spatialight's implementation of this technology supposed to be the best?
Only if you ask Spatialight. If they are so good, why don't they have a major brand using their products? Or has there been a recent development there? Is LG a "major brand?"

I'd hazard a guess that most folks would consider the Sony LCoS the best, followed by JVC and then it's a toss up between eLCOS and Spatialight- mostly because so little is known about their products. You want to be sure the chips use inorganic materials, or they will be subject to degradation.

But their version may well turn out to be a winner. Maybe a year from now their chips will be hot sellers. The LG product must sell well- and maybe it will. The technology seems to be a winner- LCoS is coming on strong to take a significant market share.

I would consider LG after seeing the product- but I'm sticking with JVC for now, and presumably will have my set before LG ships.

I would say LG is a "major brand". To better clarify I would say LG is the sleeping giant that has been disturbed. I am interested in a 61inch LCOS 1080p model from any company. I thought the LG was supposed to ship this summer and the JVC was not shipping until the Fall.

At 61" (and viewed from 12') I'm not sure I could see a difference between 720 and 1080. The JVC 1080 models are in fact not due out until the fall- but I'm sticking with the 61" 720p and saving the $1500 difference and getting the unit 6 months earlier. Shipment is expected next month.

Lucky Goldstar has had a mixed record on their products. I believe their quality is improving, but I'd want to read user reports before laying down my cash. The fact that only 21,000 units will be made in the first 6 months is not reassuring. How available and how supported will the units be? JVC and most "name" manufacturers put out more than that each month.

I don't intend to sound negative about LG. Just cautious. I may be a booster of theirs in another year. At these prices, I want some confidence in an observed track record on any TV I might buy. I'd hate to be the owner of a Philips Cineos, discontinued so quickly.

I understand. I would also be interested in the 1080P Samsung DLP but I get headaches when watching the 720p DLPs. Maybe the 1080P sets will be different.

Yes- possibly worse. That extra "wobulation" mirror might not help, but it lets them claim the xHD3 is "sorta" 1080. I originally was sold on Samsung DLPs, but delays, cancellations and reduced features drove me away. Then the color wheels started failing. Plus the uncertainty of rainbows and headaches in the future, for me and others. With the plasma & LCD concerns, and SED and OLED off in the future, the LCoS sets looked great. And did look great, in fact, when I saw them.
Navychop are you saying that you have seen the JVC D-ILA's ? Did you see them at CES? My impression of them comes from a young man named Tetsujinwave that provided many pictures from CES, but none of the D-ILA's...he did however say that he preferred the 1080P version to everything except the SXRD. I am really hoping that the 786/886 sets will be bug free and heavily discounted!!!
tomboyter,

Actually if you do a search function for "Ken Golden" he was at CES and saw the new JVC 720P sets with new electronics and he said there was a significant difference between the old sets. He also said after seeing the 1080P JVC that he would definitely wait for that set.
I have seen the 575 series at different stores, in both 52" and 61" sizes. I was pleased. I was more pleased to read of Ken's impression that the 786 would be even better.

I view the 786/886 series as an improved model, not an all new model, and one with the extra connections and features I desire (VGA, firewire, ATSC tuner). So I figure it's pretty well debugged and ready to go.

I planned for years to attend the Fall Comdex and never did. Well, we all know about that show now. So now I'm hoping to attend CES one day. Maybe thi$ hope will come true. Certainly didn't get to the la$t one.

I'd love to get the 70" FH, for the size, the second HDMI port and the memory cards reader- plus, of course, the 1080. But at an MSRP of $4,500 more than the 61" 720, it just isn't on the agenda. Actual cost will no doubt be about twice what the 61Z786 will cost me. I console myself with the thought that this 61" I buy will "tide me over" for 5 years or so, then I can make it a spare room TV and get a super duper gazillion inch whiz bang with extra bells and whistles for $2,000. The beauty of the JVC will make the wait easier, even more than my watching DTV on my HTPC today has helped as I wait to get the JVC.

The LG 71" LCOS is now being advertised on the internet. Link below.

An acquaintance of mine called the number and talked to alive person. The sets are expected to be available in late June or early July and the price could be $1,000 higher than the price you see when you click on 'Add to Cart'.

I have pictures of the set, they're just not mine--so I was hesitant about showing them. This one of a turtle is from a Japanese site.

TetsujinWave - Are those pictures you posted of the 720p or 1080p JVC model?

Thanks!
The LG set will also contain their Gen5 ATSC tuner, which is reportedly the best performing model due to multipath rejection.
That would be great- the tuner. But not the price.
