Speaker adjustment

889 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  RayGuy
I'm looking for home theater system speakers. I have a Sony 85 inch 4k TV, Yamaha RX A3080 receiver. I am planning to purchase floor-standing speakers from the Sonus Faber Sonata V.
Which speakers should I combine with them?
Thanks

I would match the Sonetto V's with either the Sonetto Center 1 or 2 for certain and then if you really want to tie everything together get a pair of Sonetto 1 or 2's for surrounds. Man that would be a beautiful system.

For reference here's the entire Sonetto collection (I assume Sonata was a typo)
More Sonus Faber Sonettos...

Thank you very much for your response.
I live in Israel and the prices for Sonus speakers are almost the same as an apartment, so I thought about buying the Sonus floor standing and the center and to be combine the rear speakers with another brand.
Do you have any suggestions about a set of 5 speakers, other then Sonus?
Thanks again
Having never listened to SF speakers (on my bucket list), I would ask why you are considering them. As you say, they are not inexpensive, and that would be a huge financial commitment.
I have read rave reviews about various SF speakers for music, I have no real idea how they would sound ina HT. If measurements matter to you, then the following ones show a "house curve" of a smiley-faced frequency response - where there is more energy in the bass and treble, and with a recessed midrange:
This leads me to believe the Sonettos would have a similar "sound" to them. If you like that, that's all that matters. If not, then there should be other speakers at that price range that may sound better to you.
I know that you can get pretty much everything in Israel, as long as you're willing to pay for it. I see an MSRP of $5000USD/pr, but I don't know what their price in INS.
All that being said, if you have listened to the speakers, love them, and can afford them, then that's all that matters. If adding a pair of the Sonetto bookshelf surrounds is too expensive, then it's far from the end of the world. At roughly $2000USD/pr, I get that. I would think that a pair of Wharfedale or Q Acoustics bookshelfs would match decently sonicly and they are fairly nice-looking too.

There are any number of FAR BETTER options for HT speakers than Sonus that cost FAR LESS.

The only thing that Sonus gives you over those far less expensive options? Prettier cabinets, a famous brand name, and inflated price tags for those people who love to boast about how much they paid (wasted) on things like that.

What speaker brands are available where you are, in Israel?

I agree with Zorba. I heard several models of Sonus Faber when I worked for a store that sold them. They had an extensive number of brands and models on the showroom floor. It was a great experience being able to hear so many high end brands and models. The sound of Sonus did not impress me, but the cabinets are beautiful.
The suggestion of Wharfedale as surrounds seems an appropriate option, saving you a ton of $. As to the Sonus, I assume you have heard and LOVE them? If not, then $5k can buy you a lot of quality speakers. Once you get into that level of cost, most speakers are of good quality, so your choice is more about application and sound signature. My recommendation would be to go listen to as many speakers as you can manage to find locally, before pulling the trigger.

You do not mention whether music plays an important role here? 2 channel?
