Speaker advice for music in a small room (Salk Songtower vs Aperion Verus Grand)

Hi all,

I have been researching 2-channel speaker options for that day that I can actually afford to pull the trigger. The budget I am targeting is ~$2000. I am particularly interested in the Salk Songtower QWT and the Aperion Verus Grand Tower. The Ascend Sierra Tower may be added depending on the reviews.

I am looking for something that will be used exclusively for music (at least for now). The listening area will be approximately 8x8 feet with the room itself being roughly 11x22 feet (a grand piano takes up the remaining space).

My ears will be about 6 feet from the speakers, so I am concerned about tower speakers and am wondering if selecting a 2-way speaker over a 3-way speaker would be preferred. If I have to move to bookshelf size speakers, then I am open to that. If possible, however, I'd like to exclude subwoofers from consideration as the Songtower and GVT seem to be sufficient in bass for music listening.

Eventually, my thought is to use the speakers with an Emotiva XPA-2 and either a UMC-1, XMC-1 (when it is released), or Marantz AV7005. The player will probably be an Oppo BDP-80 (which I already have).

I currently have had Infinity Compositions Overture 2s (main) and Overture 1s (center and surround) as speakers. I recently moved the Overture 1s to the listening area mentioned above, but I would like to find something that will upgrade these speakers. The OV1s are currently being used with a Harmon Kardon AVR-65.

Finally, the room has been acoustically treated (insofar as I am able) with GIK 244s and Tri-traps. The sofa is against the back wall, which I know is not ideal, but that is all I can do with it. The 244 panels are directly behind the listening area.

What would you recommend for someone in my situation? Thanks.

I am still considering the speakers above (though I am no longer restricting things to 2-way). Now that the Sierra Tower's are being shipped (albeit in limited quantities), I am wondering if anyone has the ability to comment on my situation.
My vote would be to hold off and see how the Ascend Sierra Towers do. But if you don't want to wait I would get the Salks.
I owned the songtowers, very overhyped, my mistake, I am actually thinking of trying the verus grande also, with their 30 day return policy, it is at least worth a try, good luck

What was it that you didn't like about the songtowers?

Why would you choose the Songtower over the Aperion Grand Verus?

Good question.

I'd suggest you ask both manufacturer for measurements of their speakers. See who gets back to you first.
They were not my cup of tea, the tweeter was kind of bright and they threw a very narrow soundfeild, they were supposed to have a return policy, but after talking to Jim several times, a return was not offered, also, he stated that he would help me sell them, but that was the last I heard from him, I bought the songtowers, the center and the rears, it took awhile to get them, and took a long time to sell them at quit a loss.
