Greetings everyone,

I am having difficulties trying to get the voice and the picture to match up perfect on my SONY STR-DE698 7.1 setup. I measured from my front speaker to my seating and it is approx. 15 ft. I set the recievers delay (under setup) to 15ft but it is still off a little. The minimum I can set my reciever for is 3ft the max is 29ft. I have gone up and down on this and can`t seem to dial it in just right.

I read the FAQ already, I don`t have a meter, Can anyone give this novice some advice to getting this as close as possible?

Thanks in advance

The speaker distances can't really be used to affect the audio delay relative to the video (or vice versa). The speaker distance settings affect the relative delays of the speakers' output. And the settings do not affect the delay absolutely; it is relative. For example, if a speaker is set to 10' and another to 12' the delay between those two speakers' output would only be based upon the 2' difference in those distances.

Can you discern whether the audio is ahead of or behind the video? If the audio is ahead of your video, you can use your receiver's "A.V. Sync." (time alignment) setting to try and compensate (see page40 in your manual). If the audio is behind the video, there is really nothing you can do about it. You can't speed up the audio and you can't slow down the video.

An SPL meter is only useful for adjusting the relative volumes of the speakers' output, btw. It would not be useful in addressing your audio/video sync. issue.

Thanks for the info. I`m going to locate page 40 and do as described. It seems to be only the optical input that this is happening on. And no I can`t discern whether ahead or behind. the audio finds itself.

While I get to reading any other feedback from members?

Thanks to the hopeful advice posted here I messed with the sync feature. Anyway, I set it to "NO" instead of "YES". Because my projector`s video was direct to the source instead of passing through the home theater , like the audio, it was off.

My advice to others with a similar issue is to go back and check this; all because you have a feature on a reciever doesn`t mean it should be enabled
