My UXL-18 has a rattling noise at certain frequencies/loudness levels. This rattle goes away if I press in on the basket. I didn't use the rubber gasket that came with the sub. As is, there is nothing between the basket and the enclosure.

I could order gasket tape from Parts Express, but would prefer to avoid having to pay shipping costs if possible.

You mounted the UXL without some type of gasket tape? If so, then yes you need to buy some closed-cell foam tape and put it between the driver and the cabinet.

Whoa- duplicate threads. My bad. I was wanting to know if I could pick up any foam tape at Wal-Mart, Home Depot, or Ace?

I think so, yes. It was a while ago. To be honest, I originally thought that rattle I heard every once in a while was stuff on my walls, etc. I just now started to investigate and found out that it's coming from the sub.

I didn't use gasket tape (will in the future ) on my si18 but used #10 by inch and a half screws and it sucked the basket down tighter then a nuns ....

Always use a gasket
It is cheap insurance against leaks.

Rope caulk or putty tape (same thing) will seal better than the speaker gasket or foam weatherstrip.

It will but you'll destroy your boxes if you need to get the driver out..... This I know from experience lol

Really? ****.......

You've found no creative way to remove the driver? That stuff doesn't seem that sticky to me. Maybe turn the box driver side down on a couple 2x4s?

I tried 3 different foam weather stripping styles and they were all inconsistent. They sealed 99%, sometimes all the way, but the rope tape sealed 100% every time.

I've had them in there so bad I had to cut a hole the back and hammer it out with an axe handle hahaha. I made the really bad mistake of using 2 sided 3m tape my first build...... That box was thrown away once done LOL. I've also had to silicone drivers in there because of bent baskets.

Once the putty gets hard, it's like glue.... Well in my case anyways. lol No biggie, I use Home Depot 1/2" door weather stripping and I've not had any issues.
