Speaker hum

273 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  eameres
I've recently moved my HT into a new family room.

Whrn I turn on my TV, I get a 60Hz hum from the front speakers. Its only when the CRT's on the RP set come on that this happens.

All are on the same electrical circuit.

Sounds like a ground loop. Is you TV connected to cable? I had the same problem in my previous condo, and it turned out to the be the cable. My audio dealer got me a filter that properly isolated ground and got rid of the hum. I forget the product manufacturer, but I remember he said that Radio Shack had a similar product.
I had a similar problem when I hooked up my front projector with component cables. S Video was fine, and unplugging the projector's power cord eliminated the hum as well. I finally just moved the projector's power cord to another outlet and the hum was gone.
I finally hooked up my back surrounds (in a 7.1 channel config) and get nothing but hum on my right back speaker. Sounds like 60hz, but I think my problem lies in my receiver (switched wiring all around to eliminate wire/speaker sources). Fortunately my dealer has been good to me and everything is still under warranty!
