Speaker placement and musical imaging

338 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  sju
When speakers are placed a few feet from the wall and aligned correctly, the speakers disappear and there is great imaging of the instruments.

Can this type of sound ever be created when speakers are placed in an entertainment center?

For instance, Aerial Acoustics 10T speakers throw out an incredible image when properly placed away from the back wall. The new LR5s and LR3s are advertised to be less placement sensitive. But, would they be able to project an holographic image of stereo music if they are placed in cabinet (even when it is properly padded)?

The dealers state that this is "no problem." But, the showrooms do not have large entertainment centers so I can hear the speakers. I am sure that good components will contribute to this imaging.

Thanks for the input.

The reason why the 10Ts are more placement sensitive is that they produce deeper bass. If you must place your speakers within an entertainment cabinet, then you will get the best results by insulating the entire cavity so that room boundary effects will be minimized.

Do you think it is a waste of money to buy a speaker like the Aerial 10T if it will be placed in a cabinet (even if it is well padded)? Or buying a smaller monitor like the LR3s and try to keep the subwoofer outside of the cabinet offer a better solution to maintain musical imaging?
