Speaker placement help?

279 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  whphel
The new klipsch rs-25 speakers that I ordered have just arrived and now I need help on where exactly to position them on the wall. I'm planning on running a 7.1 setup with these. Right now, im planning on putting the side speakers with the center lined up with the rear of the couch. The room is 8 foot tall, should I place them at around the 6 foot mark? This would make the bottom of the speaker about 2.5 feet above the listeners head. Should I go any higher or lower on that? Now for where I really need help is where to place the rear speakers. They will also be wall mounted. The back wall is 12.5 ft long. What distance from the side wall should I mount the rears? Should they be closer to the side or center? Also should I mount them the same height as the sides? The rears will be about 3-4 feet away from the couch. Thanks for all the help!

bump, please.....electrician is coming tomorrow to drill holes in the wall, i dont want to take a guess on where to put them.
You sound like you have everything thought out pretty well. I guess without experimentation, you can follow Dolby's recommendation, which it's seems your doing. Have the speakers equal height all around with the speakers 2-3ft. above the listener, sides just about a foot back from the listener. The rears I would space apart equally from each side wall and from each other. Let the drilling begin!
Personal, I would go 4' above ear level for the surrounds and rears. The rear speakers I would mount at 1/4 and 3/4 of the back wall. Ive found that with higher mounting, the surround info is more transparent and natural and less localized.
