I finally bought some new speakers and wanted to know the best place to put them in my home theater. I have to pics that illustrate exactly how the theater is setup and the size of the speakers. All receiver and other hardware is in another room. The 5 satellites are flat and I was looking to mount them flat to the wall, is okay?

Generally, how would you go about setting up this 5.1 speaker system?

*Would the 2 front speakers go on the floor, mid, or top section?

*Would the center speaker go above or below the screen?

*Is the sub okay in the far corner? ...can it be set on its side inside of standing upright?... can the other front speakers be turned horizontally?

Any input is very appreciated, thanks for any help

Your first pic seems good except you need to make sure you put the main speakers in-line with the center speaker and move the surround speakers so that they are in-line with your listening position/couch. With the sub...the best way to find the best location is to put the sub in your listening position and put in a good bass heavy cd and crawl around the room and where it sounds the best...put the sub there.

take care,

By putting the front speakers in-line with the center speaker, you mean like a horizonal line? Where they are all level?

Would you suggest the center speaker (and subsequent front speakers) be placed above the PJ screen? its about 6 and a half feet high.

Both in line horizontally (if possible) as well as moving the L and R forward to be in line with the C speaker's baffle (when viewed in plan). Having the LCR speakers in an arc (C speaker recessed) is said to be even better, but not always possible in your room.

Either way, you will have time delay available to your C speaker, so can correct for the time difference later...

Your surround speakers should go on the sidewalls right next to the couch, not on the back walls. Put them about 2-3 feet above your seated head position. Neither your main speakers or surrounds should be mounted in the corners the way you show them. Should be at least 2 feet away from the side wall so, in your case, put the mains close to the screen and centered (horizontally). It looks like your center should probably go directly under the screen and then you can angle it up slightly to point directly at your seating position.
