Hello, I'm looking for speakers for the parents. Their budget is $600 for the speakers.


It will be used for karaoke/cable tv/movies. Bookshelf fronts are fine, although towers are preferable. I do not need a stand for back speakers. Looking for a 5.1 system. Receiver will most likely be in the $500 range. I'm thinking about an lower model yamaha 5940, although an hdmi passthrough (audio/video) receiver would be great because it's simpler hookup.


To be honest, I'd do the research myself, but I really don't have the time.

KRK ST-6s. $200 a pair at Guitar Center and various online outfits. Excellent build quality and very nice sound for the size; natural and robust tonality and good clarity , no earwire.

As for a receiver, for $500 an onkyo 605 is probably your best bet although i'm not a fan of the sound of onkyo's
