speaker stand filler

Anyone fill their speaker stands with rice? I've heard of guys using sand, cat litter, lead shot, gravel. Rice is really dry when you buy it so moisture shouldn't be an issue and it's pretty clean except for the light powdery substance on it. Got some speaker stands coming on the weekend.

I say no to the rice. It invites bugs and rodents, and it will absorb moisture, causing problems down the road.

Also very light, as a speaker/stand filler.

The best to get is Sand, for blasting metal found in many shop.
While it may be more expensive, it is very heavy and extremely dry.
And will not introduce any moisture, inside the speaker/stand. Especially if made of wood or MDF.

I seriously hope you're both kidding.

Joseph

Send me a check for the difference minus 10% and were both ahead
Just get paving sand, it is already dried and cleaned from factory and dirt cheap.

I agree with the sand for metal or paint blasting it is really fine dry and does not cost anything i use them in my metal stands makes them weight more and removes the echo from them too.
there is an alternative to sand, or lead. check with you local artificial turf seller. they make a plastic "in fill" material to use on artificial turf instead of sand. it is a little more dense than sand.

hope it helps.
