Speaker stands and hiding wire.. what's the norm?

1079 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Karp
ok, so I'm looking to purchase speaker wire, but won't be buying stands until a little later. My question is, does the typical stand (of only those which have the wire-hiding feature) have a big enough entrance/exit for the wire to accomodate thicker jacketed type wire or do they only have just enough of an opening to insert bare wire?

If it's typically a fairly wide or large opening, then I can go with some thicker jacketed wire and not worry about whether it will fit into a stand later on.

thanks..

Typical is dangerous. Most seem to have a wider access but you cannot count on a really wide cable being acceptable in any and all stands that you might consider later. Why not pick a stand now (even if you don't buy it now) that will work with your selected cable?

because you have no idea how long it takes for me to make decisions! I'll be debating stand selection for a couple months yet, I'm sure.

Even this whole wire thing is giving me fits. Not so much about quality, but finding the least obtrusive looking set-up possible, which seems to be nearly impossible! (I'm starting another thread to vent on this topic :D).

Thanks for the reply Kal. Any wire I choose won't likely be too thick, i.e., I'll probably go with 12 to 14 gauge, non bi-wire types. So, I'll take my chances then and get whatever wire best fits the aesthetical considerations I have..
Plain vanilla 12-14ga two conductor wihtout any fancy frills should snake through almost(!) any stand.

Just don't attach bananna plugs to the wires until after you buy the stands and run the wire through and you should have no problems with (most) stands.
