I've reviewed a few similar threads, but didn't quite find a response that fit my situation.

My father bought a *cough*Bose*cough* surround system a few years ago, and naturally instead of pure speaker wire, it has wire for the satellites and RCA plugs for the receiver. Those cables remain at his old house, unfortunately, and the pre-wiring in their new house is pure speaker wire.

We tried the soldering route with some two-part RCA plugs, and it was about a 25% success rate. The front speakers work, but a little tweaking can shut them off. Apparently, we are masters of suck when it comes to soldering.

Currently looking for a simple adapter that will convert from speaker wire to RCA plugs with even less effort than soldering. Does anyone know of anything like this? No Radio Shack nearby and I'll be leaving town soon, so I figured I'd ask, so he can order them online.

Appreciate the help!

Well, you could learn to solder.

Get a bunch of these: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2102951 . Cut off 1-2foot lengths from each end and splice the two leads to the exposed ends emerging from the wall. (Solder if you can.) Cover/insulate with electrical tape. Messy but functional.

My father did the soldering.
Of course, neither of us had done it before or read the most basic instructions. Our first mistake.

Actually, it turns out he'd overlooked a $40 wallplate / cable set sold by Bose for this very purpose and ordered it online yesterday, but hopefully this answers someone else's question in the future. Thanks, man!

Can you get one of these cables, cut off the rca plug at one end, clip the 2 cables into a speaker cable input on a speaker, and connect the other rca plug into a tv's audio output?

Probably not. The speaker usually expects an amplified signal and the RCA outputs are usually not amplified.

Kal, I know that the magazine does not allow you to get anywhere near budget audio equipment , so you would have no way knowing that some of loud speakers use RCA connectors. Budget PC computer speakers have the amps in the sub-woofer box and the full-range speakers connect with those RCA connectors. Mini-systems with detachable speakers use the same RCA connectors.

Sure. I know about these. However, the poster was going to use the stripped ends on the speaker terminals and that is predictive of a passive loudspeaker. Similarly, the RCA output jacks on a modern TV will be line-level as the few TVs with power amps generally use spring terminals for these.

See, I do know something about cheap stuff.
