speakers in a co-op building?

Does anybody have any tips on how to keep the sound in my apt instead of my neighbors? I am especially concerned about the downstairs neighbor, i can see her causing my life hell if my speakers are too loud. I am planning on buying the yamaha ns-225F floor standing speakers, mainly because I like the looks of them to be honest. Are floor speakers a bad idea? Would she hear them more downstairs then if i was to buy speakers to hang on the wall, or in a bookshelf? I have hardwood floors, wich adds to the problem. Also anybody have any suggestions on what rear/center speaker i could use with these? I am also probably going to buy a vrs-n8100 receiver, mainly for the network features. Thanks!
