Finally, a look at the new design. Not a huge difference in the frame and I do like the new table stand. 1.07 billion colors? This sounds like Panasonic 6th gen specs, same as what the XHA30 has. I figured it would have 3.62 billion colors (use the new 7th gen Panasonic glass instead). Either way I'm sure it will be beautiful. I believe I read in another thread that the price for the 40 series (at least for the 50") will remain the same at $8999 MSRP. I'll admit I was disappointed to hear this. I was hoping for a price drop in the range of $1000 - $1500 perhaps.

Can't wait for the release and the reviews.

Looks a bit disapointing to me as well. Similar unispired cosmetics to the 30 series when off (no comparison to Onyx, Elite, Sony), likely using older panny glass, no media box. It does have 2 HDCP compatible inputs which is a plus. It also has a newer scalar.

Seems fujitsu is improving on their strength (scalar) and ignoring their weaknesses: price, appearance when off, features...and [apparently] using the old glass.

I was thinking about getting a 40 series Fujitsu for my second plasma but I think I will get the 50PHD7UY instead.

Newbie question here - so the 42 ED and 50 will use Panny glass, but the 42 HD will use the Fujitsu/Hitachi aLis glass?

Also, I know contrast ratios are disputable, but how does 1000:1 alis compare to 3000:1?

There isn't likely 3x the difference, but the Matsushita / Panasonic glass is definitely richer in contrast capability.

I think the P55 will be out around January, but I haven't seen any specs on it yet.

Just spoke to a dealer in NY and was told they are in customs and should be available in a couple of weeks.
